6/18/25: Day 22 - Chengdu Day 1

Psalm 121:1-3 “I will lift up my eyes to the mountains; from where shall my help come? My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth. He will not allow your foot to slip; He who keeps you will not slumber.”

Today we traveled from Xi’an to Chengdu. We are getting good at navigating our way through subways and connections, as well as bullet trains. The landscape today was fabulous! We traveled through miles and miles of tunnels as we went under whole mountains. It was amazing to see small mountainside communities and how they grew their crops on the sides of the mountains.

We arrived!! The kids are fascinated by the robots all the hotels use. This one was loaded by the staff with items to be delivered to someone’s room. It rode up the elevator with us.

Shan is so excited to be back in his hometown! We went out for dinner and the girls got to experience their first taste of Sichuan spice and we were told it wasn’t very spicy. 🤣🤣

Pandas are everywhere…not real ones, but in parks, on signs, etc.

My lips were starting to feel a little tingle as the meal went on.

We found a local barbershop for Shan to get a haircut. He was excited that she knew how to cut his hair.

The barbershop was across the street from a school. The kids were just getting off of school at 5:30pm!!!

We went to a small, local Sichuan opera tonight. It was a unique experience and felt personal. We do plan on taking the kids to the big opera we went to 8 years ago. It will be fun for them to compare and see which one they liked more. There are probably pros and cons to each one.

Pandas, orphanage visit, and travel to Leshan.

Naomi made it safely to Ireland. It made my heart happy to hear that everything went smoothly for her. She stayed with our friends in Chicago for a couple days before her flight. Meghan is more like her 6th sister than a friend. Please pray for her over the next few weeks as she serves in Ireland.
