Update 5/30/25: Day 3 - Hong Kong Day 2

Psalm 95: 3-6 "For the Lord is a great God and a great King above all gods, in whose hand are the depths of the earth, the peaks of the maintains are His also. The sea is His, for it was He who made it, and His hands formed the dry land. Come, let us worship and bow down, let us kneel before the Lord our Maker."

Some extra photos from yesterday that I forgot to post.

Today we started out by navigating our way back to the Sha Tin Subway station. We converted more money to the Hong Kong dollar and reloaded our octopus card (transportation card that can also be used for purchases). While we were waiting for our friends, we grabbed a Starbucks and some fresh baked goods to energize us through the day.

We then headed to the Che Kung Temple with our friends. On a side note: God has been so amazing to us. It has been such a privilege to meet up with "strangers" that have now become close friends. Their kids are just the right ages for our kids. I told Rebecca that her kids are helping my kids transition between the US and what we will experience in China. Hong Kong is a blend of both worlds. I truly believe this is a gift to help them navigate all that we will be experiencing this next few weeks. And you can't beat having people who know the area to help you!

The Che Kung Temple was dedicated to the Chinese deity Che Kung, who was a general during the Southern Song dynasty in Imperial China. This was a new experience for me since most of the temples I have visited before were temples to Buddha. The smell of incense was strong and we saw many people offer up prayers.

There were wheels you could spin in the temple that was supposed to give you good luck. People could also buy these pinwheels to increase your chance at luck too.

This is the male lion. You can tell it is the male because his paw is on a globe looking object. The female lion on the other side has her paw on a cub.

We were able to explore some smaller areas around the temple.

We then took a detour to catch a bus to Sai Kung. While we were waiting for the bus, we took the kids to their first wet market. Although wet markets got a bad rap during COVID, they are an amazing place. The produce and meat that you can buy are very fresh. Although I wouldn't eat everything here, I think wet markets are great.

Here is a picture of 3 new buildings being built. Bamboo scaffolding is used all the way up these buildings. Below is a picture of bamboo that was used for another project. It is just fascinating to observe.

Sai Kung is an older fishing village outside Hong Kong. It has gained in popularity with tourists. We were able to see a fisherman bring in his haul and we also took a quick boat ride out around a few islands. There are over 250 small islands off of Hong Kong! We saw many caves and some gorgeous rock formations.

We passed another small temple in town. From there, we headed to a Saigon Pho restaurant for lunch. I shared a bowl with Micaela, since it was so huge. Shan managed to eat the whole bowl himself.

It was rainy and a little choppy out, but our friends told us that you can snorkel out here and the water is clear.

As we bounced through the South China Sea water, I couldn't help but think about our amazing Creator. Tonight as I was reflecting upon this, the verse above came to mind.

We ended our day at our friend's apartment complex. We played some badminton, Scattergories, ate pizza, and watched a movie. We met another family who has 8 kids who is moving back to the US in a few weeks.

By the time we took the bus back to the train station, my kids were worn out. They are fast asleep right now as I quickly update the blog.
