Psalm 143:10 “Teach me to do Your will, for You are my God; may Your good Spirit lead me on level ground.”
The Longji rice terraces lived up to the hype. It was hard to capture the beauty with my cell phone camera. I won’t know for about 12 days when I can upload my Nikon pictures if I was able to capture it any better with that.
Although it took about 3 hours, on some windy and scary roads, it was worth it. After seeing the terraces, we stopped at the village of the Yao tribe. These women are famous for only cutting their hair one time in their lives (around 16-18 years old). Overall, the day was filled with new and amazing experiences, including a Chinese massage which felt more like torture. It feels amazing now, but at the time it didn’t feel very relaxing at all.
Once again, blogger posted my photos out of order.
Yao people group. I refused to pay to see their hair down, so I took a photo from Google.
An 87 year old Yao woman’s home. We bought a few trinkets to support her. The kids noticed that her house reminded them of some of the old pioneer cabins we saw in field trips.
Garden in the cliff side.
The rice terraces are planted by hand. Although the flat lands of China now use machines, it is impossible to plant the rice any other way. We could see their footprints in the muddy water from where they planted the rice.
Fried rice for lunch - rice from these fields!
Sweet dog that someone hit. The kids felt sorry for it and fed it some beef sticks. Poor thing was skinny and hungry.
Micaela’s only request was to get dressed in the Miao people group outfit. We watched a documentary about this people group and she became fascinated with them. So, we went ahead and rented the costume and got pictures. It made her day. She just wishes they would have given her a different color outfit since red didn’t really go with her skin. Shan definitely pulled the look off well.
See the footprints? These are freshly planted rice plants.
All the mountainsides around us were tiered rice terraces. It was just stunning up here!
Tomorrow will be a down day of laundry and packing. We fly to Xiamen tomorrow to spend about 9 days with Wei Wei and Yuan, before spending our last few days in Chongshu until we fly home. The days are slowly ticking away to the end of our time here in China. It has been a once in a lifetime trip!!
