Update 6/1/25: Day 5 - Hong Kong Day 4

Acts 8:30-31 “Philip ran up and heard him (the Ethiopian eunuch) reading Isaiah the prophet, and said, ‘Do you understand what you are reading?’ And he said, ‘Well, how could I, unless someone guides me?’ And he invited Philip to come up and sit with him.”

I love the story of Philip and the Ethiopian eunuch. In fact, I had a special gift made for my friends on this trip with this Bible story. How can those who don’t know Jesus know Him without us sharing the good news? It takes time to disciple and explain the Bible to others, but it is worth it. Today, we got to experience the beautiful results of people who took time to teach God’s Word to others.

Walking to church. You walk everywhere in Asia and it is great! We have averaged over 15,000 steps a day so far. I should add if you aren’t walking, you are taking trains or buses. We haven’t been in one car since we arrived in Hong Kong!

Breakfast this morning: a pineapple bun. It is not made with pineapple, but it is a delicious, homemade roll that you can buy fresh everywhere! I don’t think anyone could do low carb around here. At least the walking offsets the extra delicious food.

We went to church this morning with our friends. It was a beautiful service! Nothing fancy, just sweet fellowship and singing. One thing we all noticed was that it was a small group of people, but they sang louder and with more intensity than most churches we have attended.

We were blessed to be able to be present for their baptism service. It only happens about twice a year. The testimonies were so amazing and such a beautiful picture of the ministry here. Two of the ladies who were baptized were saved through an English class from the local college; another lady from the Philippines found the church and ultimately, Jesus; and one lady had moved here from mainland China and met someone from the church who shared Jesus with her and invited her to church, where she ended up discovering a relationship with Him. All of them said the same thing: they felt hopeless and lost, but now that they have Jesus, they have hope and are so thankful for His love!! Our hearts were so full leaving the service.

God is moving in great ways at this church. What a blessing it was so get to spend our morning with our brothers and sisters in Hong Kong!

After church, we were treated to authentic Hong Kong Dim Sum!! It was delicious. I was super adventurous and tried my first, and probably only, chicken foot. If I was offered it somewhere, I would eat it to not offend my host, but I wouldn’t go out of my way to eat them again. 🤣

I also tried abalone for the first time. My goal when traveling is to try everything offered to me. I’m not sure what all the food was, but it was very delicious.

Lunch with friends!! I was proud of Micaela and Joella, who tried everything offered to them. Chicken feet didn’t get ordered at their table.

Swimming at the roof top pool! We had a little sun this morning, but then it got cloudy again. It seems to be the theme for our time here in Hong Kong. Despite that, the views were beautiful from the roof.

View from our room.

Enjoying one last meal in Hong Kong-another noodle meal. 🩷

I had to sneak a picture with my fellow Rebecca. We realized we hadn’t taken any photos together at lunch today. Thankful for this new friend!

Update: Wayne

Wayne got new front teeth. The kids had teased him that he was embracing his KY roots too much with his broken teeth. 🤣Interesting fact: Wayne’s family tree included McCoys who were related to the McCoys involved with the famous feud with the Hatfields. So, moving to KY was really like him moving back to his historic roots. We are thankful for his new teeth. Naomi told me that the dentist informed him that he may end up needing a root canal in the future. He responded that he would be dead before that becomes true. 🫣

Tomorrow morning, we will board a plane and head to Taiwan. Our time in Hong Kong has been amazing and we are leaving part of our heart here. Lord willing, we would love to return again in the future (not including the night we spend when we fly back through here on our way home).
