Update 6/6/25: Day 10 - Taiwan Day 5

Psalm 61:8 “So I will sing praise to your name forever, that I may pay my vows day by day.”

Today we headed to the mountains again. I love driving through the small towns as we head into the beauty of the mountains. Thankfully, the rain held off the whole time we were there.

Temples everywhere. When there isn’t a big one, they have these small ones along the road and in neighborhoods.

My camera didn’t capture the colors and beauty very well. The greens were vibrant!

Hike #1: crossed a bridge and walked in the jungle.

Water in this canal makes its way down and then up over the mountain until it reaches the other side and makes its way to the mushroom farms.

Hike #2: Guguan

This hike was deceptive. It started off flat as we crossed another bridge. At first we thought it would only a few stairs. It turned out we were to hike straight up the side of a mountain by climbing a million stairs. Needless to say, we sweat through our clothes between the strain of the hike and the humidity.

Straight up stairs!!

cicadas here are HUGE!

So many different types of mushrooms!!

After the hike, we went to the hot springs, that were cold today. In the water are fish that will nibble at your feet and clean off dead skin. It was a unique feeling!

We saw monkeys again! They were down by the river.

After our hike, we were treated to a Taiwan dessert that reminded us of shaved ice with fresh fruit.

Dinner tonight was Taiwanese steak. This whole plate of food was about $5.50!! It was interesting hearing the history of this meal and discovering it has only gone from $2-5.50 in 30 years!!

Juyi had squid for dinner! She gave us a taste and it was wasn’t too bad. I just couldn’t do a whole squid 🦑 on my plate.

Juyi gave me the biggest compliment today. She told me I may have white skin, but I have an Asian soul and tongue. She can sense our love for them and everything about their culture. We are loving every moment here!
