Wildfires

2 Corinthians 1:3 "Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God."

So the other day I finally sat down to write a blog post about how crazy life has been. That post will come soon, but in the mean time, I have a huge prayer request to send out. My hometown in California, where I have so many memories, is literally on fire. This town is where Wayne and I met, where we got engaged, got married, and started out life out together. So many of my favorite memories are tied to this place. I also have family and friends that remain in this area. Over the last few days, my Facebook feed has been filled with numerous people who have lost all of their earthly belongings. To be so far away from those close to you suffering, is difficult.

Before and after pictures of entire neighborhoods destroyed.

In the midst of all of this tragedy, one story sticks out in my mind. One friend was on vacation when the fire hit. Her daughter and grandson, thankfully, were able to escape the coming flames. She said that she was thankful that everyone was okay and that if there home was lost, it is just stuff. What a great reminder in our world of pursuing after more "things". It makes me think of Matthew 6:21 "Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth where moth and rust destroy, or thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven where neither moth nor rust destroy, not thieves break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also." This friend is a walking godly example to me and she further exhibited this truth at a dark time in her life. By some miracle, so far her home is okay. She gave all the glory to God and realizes that this is a great opportunity for her family to serve the Lord with the home He helped preserve. I just love her heart for the Lord!!!

Will you please pray with me for the following:
1. That the fires are able to get contained.
2. For the first responders working tirelessly to put out the fires.
3. For believers who have lost everything to be able to comfort non-believers around them with the HOPE that only Jesus can bring them during this destruction.
4. For other believers to be the hands and feet of Jesus to all these hurting people. What a great chance to show the love of Jesus to a lost and dying world.
5. Comfort for those who have lost everything, including loved ones in the fire.
6. That God would get the glory through this dark time.

Let's all consider ways we can help out, even from so far away.
