Update 7/17/23: Chemo Day 1

Isaiah 40:29 “He gives strength to the weary, and to him who lacks might He increases power.”

Wayne started his first day of chemo last night. He takes an anti-nausea pill an hour before he takes his chemo, temador. Taking it at night helps Wayne sleep off some of the side effects. Unlike during radiation, Wayne will be on a higher dose this time. Instead of 175mg, he’s on 500mg.

When Wayne woke up this morning, he told me that he could feel the chemo. If this time is anything like eight years ago, Wayne will feel worse as the days move forward. The chemo tends to build up in his system.

It’s going to be a few long days, but Wayne is geared up to fight.

After our long 8.5 hour day at the hospital, my friends Sue and Bethany treated me to the Original Rainbow Cone. I haven’t had this ice cream in years and it was really nice to let down and spend time with friends…especially with some delicious ice cream.

Our trip home from Chicago went pretty well. We stopped to pick some blueberries along the way because that is one of our favorite activities to do.

The blueberry farm we visited needed to prune their plants better so we could walk through them without feeling like we were in a jungle. It had just rained, so we got a second shower!

When we arrived home, our friends Jeff and Jody came over to visit. We have known them for over 25 years. Jeff was the college pastor at the church where Wayne and I met. They have a special place in our heart and we are so glad they took time to visit us!

Sophia made it home safely! She had a great time. She showed Shan how to do the fireman carry and she also demonstrated to me what she learned about blood pressure and other medical topics. She amazes me!

God is so faithful and good! We have seen it time and time again in our lives. He will sustain us through the chemo days too! We know that God has this whole trial under His control and that He also has Wayne in His hands. We will continue to trust Him through it all.
