Update 6/8/25: Day 12 - Taiwan Day 7

Psalm 71:17-18 “O God, You have taught me from my youth, and I still declare Your wondrous deeds. And even when I am old and gray, O God, do not forsake me, until I declare Your strength to this generation, Your power to all who are to come.”

Our day started off with baozi (steamed buns) and fruit before we headed to church. I also spoke briefly with Wei Wei this morning. Since we had to leave for church, we made plans to speak tonight.

This morning we headed to Dali Baptist Church. We visited the missionaries our church supports here in Taiwan. They are actually the first missionaries our church supported.

The church had so many different people groups represented: Chinese (1st service), Indonesia, Philippines, and the Caribbean-just today. Since they are near a few schools, they have people from all over the world that come through here.

They shared with us that during Easter this year, an older man that had been coming to church for 10 years got saved!!

Today was a day filled with laughter and giggles.

Lunch today (meal #2) was Taichung meatballs. This restaurant has been around for 89 years! It was simple, but delicious!

National Taiwan Museum of Fine Art

The kids dubbed this the witch hat modern art

Shan’s version of modern art

Micaela said this is her version of modern art. There was also a display called “The Anarchy of Sound”. It was a bizarre exhibit with different sounds and videos. One of them was men in a tree making animal sounds. It was hard to keep a straight face…which we couldn't and ended up laughing a lot. At one point we heard a baby crying and Micaela said, “I think they should use the sound of babies crying and call the exhibit The Life of Motherhood!”

Picking up some duck. It was a little weird to see their heads and beaks still attached. 👀

Meal #3 - Taiwan version of Peking Duck. Juyi called it a “snack”

Meal #4 - taro cake (Jackie’s favorite cake)

National Taichung Theater - the building looks like Swiss cheese. They had a beautiful garden on the roof. Shan and Joella stayed back at the house since they said it was too hot. In all fairness, it was 90 and felt like 106!  We rode bikes to visit the building.

Beautiful zinnia flowers!

Micaela loved making all the cat’s arms move.

Juyi bought bread for breakfast tomorrow from Wu Pao Chun. Their bread is “champion bread” and even beat the French. The kids are looking forward to a delicious treat.

One more full day in Taiwan before we head to mainland China!
