Biopsy Update

They just wheeled Wayne back into surgery (3:40pm) and I'm now waiting in the "Family Waiting Area". It is now feeling real. The neurosurgeon resident said that they will be taking a couple biopsies while they are in there. They will get a sample near the surface of the mass and then also target the pea size center that is thicker. The teacher in me was curious to see what the procedure was like that they are doing, so I watched a youtube clip last night. Not a smart decision. Sometimes not knowing is better.

We learned more about the mass today from the resident. the mass is spidered out among the motor skills, like the ones that work the hand. They are hoping that by taking these samples, they can get a better understanding of what they are dealing with. It is possible that some of what they are seeing is brain swelling. Just praying and trusting God. We both teared up before they came and got Wayne. He said if I cry, I'll make him cry. The sweet nurse got me Kleenex so that I didn't ruin my sweater wiping my tears. Wayne kissed me and reminded me as they wheeled him away that God is still good despite what is happening. I love how he continually points me back to our God to keep all of this in perspective. As I left him, the song "Great is Thy Faithfulness" started rolling through my head.

"Great is Thy faithfulness," O God my Father,
There is no shadow of turning with Thee;
Thou changest not, Thy compassions, they fail not,
As Thou has been, Thou forever wilt be.

CHORUS
"Great is Thy faithfulness!
Great is Thy faithfulness!"
Morning by morning new mercies I see;
All I have needed Thy hand hath provided,
"Great is Thy faithfulness," Lord unto me!

Summer and winter, and springtime and harvest,
Sum, moon and stars in their courses above,
Join with all nature in manifold witness,
To Thy great faithfulness, mercy and love.

Parson for sin and a peace that endureth,
Thine own dear presence to cheer and to guide;
Strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow,
Blessings all mine, with ten thousand beside!

CHORUS
"Great is Thy faithfulness!
Great is Thy faithfulness!"
Morning by morning new mercies I see;
All I have needed Thy hand hath provided,
"Great is Thy faithfulness," Lord unto me!

Surgery should last about an hour and then recovery is about an hour. Hopefully if he does well, we'll head home tonight. I'll keep everyone posted as I hear more.
