Galatians 6:9 "Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up."
I am going to take this verse out of context in reference to something the girls have been working toward - a dog. The girls have been asking us for a dog for a few years. When Naomi asked for a dog before, Wayne told her that she could get a dog if she kept the house spotless for 30 days. Months passed and it of course never happened. Wayne felt it was a safe bet. Kids keeping the house spotless for 30 days seemed pretty impossible.
Fast forward to five weeks ago when Grace decided that she wanted a dog. She asked Wayne if the "30 day earn a dog" offer was still available. Wayne said, "Yes." Somehow Grace and Naomi were able to encourage each other and their sisters to keep the house spotless for 30 days. As of last night, the girls earned their dog. I guess when you have two kids committed to earning a dog and they encourage everyone to work hard toward that dog, 30 days isn't a safe bet.
As part of the deal, when the girls reached 15 days, they were able to look at dogs online. They had fun taking quizzes that matched what we wanted in a dog with the correct dog. After much research and talking to a friend who is great at finding dogs, we decided on an Entlebucher Mountain Dog. We have to wait until the spring to get our dog, but we are all excited. The girls will sign a contract to take care of the dog, but they have proved to us that they are capable of caring for a dog. As Grace realized about two weeks into this arrangement, the girls have also proved to us that they are capable of helping keep the house spotless. Win-win if you ask me.
