Update 5/9/23 Evening: Discouraging News

Romans 8:28 “And we know that ALL things work together for good to those that love God, to those who are called according to His purposes.”

A week ago, I ran into a friend at Costco. We were talking about how hard everything has been watching Wayne struggle through all of this. We talked about how this is where our faith gets tested. When life is going well, it is easy to believe that God is working everything for our good. It’s a lot harder to know that God could use something hard like cancer for His good. We either have to choose to fully believe and trust, or to just give up believing God at all. The second choice is not a viable option for me. I have seen God do too much in my life to doubt Him now. I think that’s why this song has meant to much to me, especially in light of today’s news.

So we spent the whole day at Cleveland Clinic getting tests done for the trial to make sure Wayne qualified. Wayne endured blood draws, EKG, MRI, and a few appointments with different people running the trial. Unfortunately, when we were reviewing the MRI, we saw that Wayne’s tumor that was left behind has already doubled. If it measures more then 3cm, Wayne will not qualify for the trial. We have to wait for a day or so for the radiologist to measure and determine the size of the tumor. We were discouraged by the trial news, but super distraught to hear that the tumor is growing so quickly. It’s one thing to know it can, but another thing to experience it first hand.

The hardest part is that he looks so good! It’s hard to imagine that underneath that skull is something trying to kill him!

Thankfully, we knew that there was always a possibility that something could eliminate him from the trial, so I kept our appointment with the Northwestern radiologist. Wayne will have an appointment on Monday to get him mapped and ready for radiation, if it is determined that Wayne’s tumor exceeds the trial’s requirements.

Please pray for God’s will to be revealed and that we will continue to trust Him during these dark, discouraging times.
